Hello, My Friends!~~~
I drove to a relatively close by estate sale, waited in line about 15 minutes, and emerged with nothing, nada, bupkis. But that happens sometimes. However, the sale was one of the oddest ones run by an estate sale company that I've ever been to.
First of all I learned that the homeowner who is 90, insisted on staying there during the sale. I didn't see him, but as I was in the upstairs of the house, I passed by a small room that looked like there was items for sale, but I didn't go in. Why? There was a scary looking woman lounging in a La-Z-Boy watching a small TV. She gave a "I dare you to come in here look." I wasn't sure if she was with the sale or related to the homeowner. Either way there wasn't anything in the room I wanted to explore, so I walked on by.
Second as I was waiting to get in to the house, this lady and man walked to the door and opened it. The guy with the list at the door spoke to them and found out that the lady was there to clean the house...at the request of the homeowner! What the heck?! But as I walked aroubnd the house I didn't see the lady cleaning. I mean...really???
As I told you I bought nothing. I did see a book that I asked the price of and was quoted 10 dollars. I put it down because why would anyone in their right mind pay 10 dollars for a torn up atlas from the 70's? Not me. Not anyone I know. I assumed that the reason nothing in the house was priced, was the estate sale company folks must have been too lazy to price. But they weren't too lazy to ask stupid prices.
Isn't this a pathetic and weird tale? It is proof positive that you can't always get lucky at an estate sale. But the lucky times far outweigh the times when I get bupkis.
I hope you all get far more than bupkis on your treasure hunting, and that some scary lady doesn't freak you out from her La-Z-Boy!~~~XXOO, Beth

Glad you didn't drive far - and glad that I'm not the only one who ends up at those sales that you wonder what they were thinking!

Beth, I went to one that was in the house (literally) next door to the one I live in. Partly as the lady that owned it was a mystery to me and I was nosy. I knew she was very active politically, and that she went to the mailbox and to get her paper in the morning with a robe with a hood on (she looked like Obi Wan in Star Wars!). I went on the last day as there were huge crowds and it was all 1/2 off. They made me take a number and I stood in line for over an hour. The ladies inside were rude and they almost forgot about us schmucks waiting in line. There were far more people that came out of the house than were let in the house and the line to pay took over an hour to get through. Needless to say, if I see that company's name on an estate sale I don't go.
There was another run by the family that as I was looking they loudly discussed the family drama and who was suing whom over the estate. Needless to say, I left! That was way too much to have to listen to even for a bargain!

You must be talking about the estate sales in my area ha, ha. I rarely go to estate sales anymore since it is a waste of my time and I've never gotten anything great or for a bargain. At least, at the thrift stores they sometimes have a "cool find" and will have 1/2 off days, plus, I feel good about 'helping others have jobs'. :)

I went to one the other week where sewing and craft items were advertised. There was an older lady who plopped herself right down in the middle of the room with what she intended to buy heaped aroung her and started knitting! It was almost impossible to look at the things with her sitting there and every thing I picked up she would yell "That's mine! I'm buying that!" I gave up!
