We visited the 75th annual Kilmarnock (VA) Fireman's Carnival this evening! Here is what Hubby and I won by squirting water through a hole in plywood...

Here is what I harvested from our little urban garden today...
Purple beets and white eggplant!~~~I found out how to freeze eggplant, which I'll do today. And I'll also roast the beets. Yum!~~~Oh yes, in 5 days, Suzy and I will be heading to the World's Longest Yard Sale!~~~XXOO, Beth

Here are some fun vintage storage solutions I found yesterday at the DC Big Flea!
The top piece is a J. Chien tin Easter basket. How charming are the graphics! The middle piece is a very small wicker hamper for perhaps doll clothes? I will use it to hold vintage fabric scraps. And the adorable Morning Glory jar will be at home with similar pieces. In less than 2 weeks Suzy and I will be heading out to the Route 127: World's Longest Yard Sale! I can't believe it's almost here!
Well, I ahve been making a list of what I NEED to take, and thought I would share it with you. Please keep in mind that this list is in no means complete. As I think of things I add them to the list.
Now, normally I don't categorize my list, but I thought I would for this post. Oh my! I was so luck to be paired up the fabulous Sandy in Miss Jenny Holiday's Vintage Vacation Swap!
Generous Sandy filled a box to the brim with the most colorful, sweet, vintage eye candy!
The wrapping is pure bliss!
More than eye candy, Sandy included real "penny" candy! She brought back so many favorite memories of going to the corner candy store with a quarter and coming home with a bag full of sugary goodness!
How delightful is this? Sandy included a fabulous vintage Virginia travel booklet along with Mary Engelbreit buttons and vintage travel postcard folders. I've been to all of the destinations except for Hollywood!
These sweet salt and pepper shakers, Sandy so thoughtfully included, are destined to be pin cushions! Sandy festooned the vintage Washington state plate with sparkly glitter! And look at that candy! Yum!

I was at an estate sale in Vienna, VA and found a blast from my childhood past!
This single from 1964 was the first record I ever owned. I was 4 at the time and wild about The Beatles. I still have my single but my little brother drew beards on John, Paul, George, and Ringo, and basically ruined the sleeve. Yesterday at the estate sale I dug this out of a stack of vintage 45's. It is in pristine condition and cost me a whopping dollar! I will frame this and hang it in my studio!~~Yeah yeah yeah!~~~XXOO, Beth

At 5 this morning I woke up from my slumbers to hear and feel what I thought was a huge truck rolling down our street. It was so loud that I thought it was a low flying airplane (we live in the flightpath of Regan National Airport in DC). Then the house rattled a bit. Then it faded and I fell back to sleep.
The news reported this morning that we had a 3.6 earthquake. It originated north of us in Gaithersburg, MD, but I certainly heard and felt it here in northern Virginia. Reminded me of this movie that my friend and I went to see when we where in high school:
The big gimmick was Sensurround sound which was basically a loud sub woofer speaker which made the theater feel like it was rumbling. Hmmm...come to think of it, that was pretty realistic given what I heard and felt when I woke at 5 this morning. Here's to a calm weekend, everyone!~~~XXOO, Beth

If you live on the East Coast of the USA you know what I mean when I say "it is HOT outside!" Here in the Washington, DC area we are expecting over 100 degrees, record breaking heat.
What I am doing to beat the heat? Well, I'm just letting the heat stay outside, and I'm staying inside in my studio de-stashing more goodies and adding them to my Dime Store Chic etsy shop. Maybe it's because of the heat, but I added a lot of dogs to Dime Store Chic today.
Oh, there's more goodies added to Dime Store Chic today, but with all of the cute pups in there, the Dog Days of summer are getting to me--in a good way!~~~Stay cool!~~~XXOO, Beth
