Happy Monday, My Friends!~~~
Well, did I tell you I was a Girl Scout? It's true. I was a Brownie in 1969, and in 1970 I was old enough to become a Girl Scout. I stayed in Scouting for five more years until I began High School. I was a Brownie, a Girl Scout, and a Cadet Girl Scout. And I have the badges to prove it~~~
Here is my uniform from Girl Scouts. As you can see the stars denote each year I was in scouting. The wings are my "fly up" wings from Brownies to Girl Scouts.
I had a knife just like the one here, but I lost it. However, at the Arlington Flea Market on Saturday, Hubby found this knife for me!
I remember which each patch I earned was for and they are in order from top from left to right: Health Aid, Camper, Dancer, Collector, Sculptor, Sewing, Water Fun, Toymaker, Cooking, Painter. Trefoil, Boating, Good Grooming, Birdwatcher, Seamstress, Traveler, Textile Craft, Geology, and...
...Journalist, Stamp Collector, First Aid, Astronomy, Weather, Writer.
Here is a picture of me in my Cadet uniform with my troop standing on the steps of the Juliette Low home in Savannah, GA in 1974.
Look to the far right, by the railing. I am the blonde girl second down from the top! I really hated wearing this uniform dress. My favorite part of scouting was the camping where I could indulge in my Tomboy self my chopping wood, whittling, and wearing jeans!~~~Have a wonderful week!~~~XXOO, Beth

How Fun! Now I was not a girl scout and would love to know what a trefoil badge is about. Would that be a cookies and milk badge?

What a cool post! I loved seeing all of your stuff - and the picture of the troop. I was a Brownie and Girl Scout, too- and I may have a pin somewhere, but that's it. And we were in 4-H; I DO have my 4-H book, hat, collar, etc. Funny you should post this- as I have been planning an upcoming 4-H post! Loved yours.

I would have loved to have been a Girl Scout! I am a very goal-oriented person and I would have loved getting those patches. Guess I'll have to settle for Junior League.

How very cute! I never was one but was a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader at the same time (2 daughters, one in each group) for 3 years. Loved it!! Then I was a Cub Scout leader for 3 years (my son), now that was a different experience, boys are crazy at that age, what ever was I thinking LOL!

I was a Cadet, but I didn't earn nearly that many badges. I would have given my solar oven and oilcloth sit-upon for your green Girl Scout knife. Thanks for sharing!

How very cool! I was unimpressed with Brownies and didn't stay but the one year! Love your uniform! How cool you still have it!

I used to be a brownie but man if that doesn't seem ages ago!! I had more fun earning badges and doing various projects. Especially the camping trips. I had a ball!!

I was a brownie too!

Once again, you put me to shame. I was a brownie and a girl scout, but only earned 3 badges. I was too much the rebel (and moved too many times). I actually got kicked out of girl scouts too. Don't ask!
Why am I not surprised you earned so many badges?!?

I have to credit my Brownie and Girl Scout leaders for nurturing my love of crafts. I remember learning how to make granny squares and floppy crocheted hats in Girl Scouts.
I went to summer Girl Scout camp every year, and loved it so much. I have a recurring dream as an adult that I sign up for camp and am told by the camp administrators that I'm too old to attend!

Did I ever tell you how much I loved being a girl scout? I went to sleep away camp, also went right through cadets and stopped when I was in high school. I loved everything about scouting. No wonder we are such kindred spirits.

Brought back lots of memories for me! In Canada I was in Girl Guides - Brownie, Guide, Ranger - and got my Canada Cord - unfortunately I have lost my badge sash (very disappointing) - but happy to see you still have yours! I do still have my camp hat with lots of unusual crafts pinned on it - thanks for sharing! Jewels

Make new friends, but keep the old, one is silver and the other gold" Do you remember that? I was a brownie and loved wearing the uniform! The camping was great too!
Later I became a Brownie leader to my little girl and 16 classmates.....I only lasted a year! LOL!

I too was a Brownie and a Girl Scout! I really enjoyed it! Wish I would have kept at least the beanie hat from the Brownies. I do have my pins in my jewel box right along with my pearls. I have a question... Since most everybody was a Girl Scout or a Brownie.. Did you ever notice when your Mom purchased your dress that it had a unique scent to it? I have a really great sense of smell. But I always wondered if anybody else could smell it or if I was just the weirdy girl who thankfully kept it to herself until now. :o) Thanks for bringing back fun memories! Hugs! Bridget

Great post! We just got back from Savannah with our Senior Girl Scout troop of 4 (my daughter and the leader's daughter, plus leader and me.) We visited the Juliette Gordon Low birthplace, the home she lived in while married to the nasty guy and the headquarters/museum. Your beautiful uniform looks better than the ones showcased in the museum! They showed a really old, silent movie about the early days of Girl Scouts and our girls were grateful they don't have to wear brown bloomers, long stockings with boots and smokey the bear hats anymore. Thank goodness - it's hard enough to keep girls in GS through high school without having to wear goofy uniforms. Thanks for supporting the Girl Scouts!

I was a Brownie all the way through to High School, a First Class Scout. Getting badges got soon overshadowed by chasing boys though, ha!

Oh Beth, Beth....loved this post. I was a brownie and went all the way thru to cadets as well. I still have my old uniform, sash and such. My mom was my leader for quite a few years and I have her old polyester uniform. My favorite Halloween costume is to wear her old uniform with my old badge sash....I get lots of compliments on it and can go on and on about the badges I earned! We were the home base for cookie sales one year in Fairbanks, Alaska and I still remember our two car garage being stuff with case after case of cookies!
